Rolling pins

Dough basher, husband beater, no matter what you call it, you probably heard of the humble rolling pin, a valuable kitchen utensil.
The oldest versions were a far cry from the versions we have today. For starters, there was no "axle" in them, so the handles were the same piece of wood as the part that gets your dough flat.

Rolling pins have been around for centuries, the earliest versions were a very simple rounded pin, and decades alter, the French decided to taper the ends. This meant that the part where your hands are have quicker rotations compared to the thicker part so your pizza or pasta slab became larger in a shorter period of time.

It's not known when or where the first versions with an axel were created, but popular rumor is that the Americans created it just after the invention of the lathe. With that in mind, it is safe to say that in the 1800's the rolling pins used were made from one single piece of wood that got shaped and oiled, and was ready to get to work. It sure made life easier for every cook and baker around the world!!!
