Server maintenance on May 12th

Because of the need for server updates and added security for our users, the forum will be unavailable for a short time somewhere on the 12th of May 2019. We're rushing of course, so you can have access to the info ASAP again, as soon as the updates start.

Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

One of the things that bothered me most about using the phpBB based forums is the sheer unreadable Privacy Policy and the Terms Of Use page. That is why I have now re-written them, in clear language and hopefully very understandable.

The links are here:

Ticks!!! (How to avoid getting bitten)

Ticks are some of the worst parasites in the world, widespread and it seems nearly impossible to prevent a bite! Everything you will read about avoiding or repelling ticks will have the word DEET in it. From the CDC to the EPA, they all recommend using DEET to protect yourself and those you love fro...

The worst day

Everybody has a bug-out bag as well as a GHB in your car, and you have a patch of land at 4 hrs driving with a well hidden shelter. Now... here goes... You're at work when the phone rings, your ...

Rolling pins

Dough basher, husband beater, no matter what you call it, you probably heard of the humble rolling pin, a valuable kitchen utensil. The oldest versions were a far cry from the versions we have today. For starters, there was no "axle" in them, so the handles were the same piece of wood as the part th...

Downsizing

Want or need? When you're moving from the city to the country to live off the grid, you'll figure out real quick it's amazingly costly to take all the things you've gathered over the years. Most of the things you got won't be of much use when you're going off grid either, let alone when you're movi...

Building a log cabin

There are a lot of ways to build your own cabin from scratch, either by stacking the logs and cut(fishtail) notches in all beams, or going fancy and cut them all to size to prevent having to spend half your time chinking the logs. Chinking is the method used to fill all the gaps between the logs. So...

Power outage - Long term

We have all experienced short power outages, but looking out at nature, you'll find that those are slowly becoming more common and longer duration. Possible causes for that are solar flares ( info here ) and EMP attacks ( info here ). What ever the cause, natural or man made, evil or accidental, the...
